With his sights set on the 2027 World Cup, Rohit Sharma has stated that he want to remain in ODI cricket. After a sabbatical from Test and T20 international cricket, India’s captain reflected on his inspiration for the 50-over game.
Before India’s three-match ODI series against the West Indies, Rohit Sharma spoke with JioStar about his tournament ambitions and what drives him in the shorter international format.
South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia will co-host the 2027 World Cup, which will be held from October 4 to November 21. Rohit Sharma captained India in 2023, leading the team to the final in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, where Australia won the championship. Leading India to the World Cup final is still seen as a watershed point in his career.
Rohit Sharma has scored 11,895 runs in 288 ODIs, with an average of 48 and a strike rate of 93.
He is the only batsman to have scored three ODI double-centuries and holds the record for the highest individual ODI score of 264, achieved against Sri Lanka in 2014. These figures demonstrate his knowledge and ability in the format.

Dealing with distinct opponents in different circumstances necessitates thorough strategic planning and mental preparation. The first game of the forthcoming West Indies series will be played on September 27 at Thiruvananthapuram’s Greenfield International Stadium.

The second game will be played in Guwahati on September 30, followed by the third in New Chandigarh on October 3. Later in 2026, India will play three ODIs against Sri Lanka and five in New Zealand. In order to fully prepare for the World Cup, a three-game series against Zimbabwe is set for early 2027.
