Abhishek Sharma, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s attacking opening batsman, is reportedly trying to leave the team before the IPL 2027 retention deadline. The Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, and Punjab Kings are among the clubs under consideration as potential destinations. The Delhi Capitals have also been promoted.
According to reports published on Friday, October 2, the left-handed opener has been upset with SRH since the squad elected to skipper Ishan Kishan. According to insiders cited in the publications, Abhishek had his own ambitions to be captain, and the choice has strained relations between the player and the team.
What options does Abhishek Sharma have before the IPL 2027 mini-auction?
According to The Times of India, IPL franchises have more than a month until the December mini-auction to freeze their core group of retained players. Before any official action is taken, the window allows Abhishek and prospective franchisees to weigh their options.
Along with the Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings, the five-time champion Mumbai Indians are among the most well-known teams involved in the opening match. Another alternative is the Delhi Capitals, which presently have Yuvraj Singh as a trainer. Given their purported closeness, Abhishek Sharma may find this appealing.
Why is Abhishek Sharma supposedly dissatisfied with the SRH?
The reported unhappiness stems from SRH’s leadership choice prior to the IPL 2027. Before Pat Cummins returned from injury to resume his customary captaincy duties, Ishan Kishan served as the team’s interim captain during the 2026 Indian Premier League. In the franchise’s preparations, Abhishek has been positioned as a backup captain at best, with Kishan now slated to take over full-time command for the IPL 2027.
However, K Shanmugam, the CEO of SRH, has denied the media’s reports, calling the news of Abhishek’s dissatisfaction “not true”.

Although SRH’s official attitude is that there is no problem, rumours indicate that informal negotiations have already taken place with numerous franchisees, although nothing noteworthy has materialised as of yet.
