Daren Sammy, the West Indies’ head coach, has expressed concern over the flat batting conditions available during the current three-match ODI series against India. He described the conditions as a “bat-versus-bat contest” and admitted that they are not ideal for bowlers.
Daren Sammy stated the following on India TV prior to the third ODI. The second ODI, played on September 30, 2026, at Guwahati’s Barsapara Stadium, saw both teams score an amazing number of runs. The West Indies scored 405 runs, with three batsman reaching hundreds: John Campbell, Shai Hope (104), and Amir Jangoo (114). West Indies scored 400 runs for the first time in ODI history.
With 39 balls remaining, India prevailed by eight wickets after chasing down 406 runs in 43.3 overs. The chase remains India’s best successful run total in ODI cricket history. During the chase, Rohit Sharma scored 101 runs. India is up 2-0 in the three-match series.
Daren Sammy, what did you say about the pitch conditions?
Sammy admitted that every place in the series had pitches that gradually improved for batting. He noted that bowlers’ conditions deteriorate under the lights, making it more difficult for his attack to put pressure. Despite this, he stated that the bowling club is still responsible for adapting and determining how to minimise the opposition.
How will Daren Sammy put his bowlers to the test in the future?
Even with the ideal batting conditions, Daren Sammy admitted that West Indies bowlers have not been as consistent as they could have been. He encouraged his squad to be more consistent in the third ODI, pointing out that both bowling attacks faced the same pitch conditions.
