After his team’s recent triumph in Australia, Bangladeshi fast bowler Hasan Mahmud has voiced confidence in his team’s ability to establish domination in Test cricket. As the Bangladeshi team gets ready for a one-off Test match against Afghanistan, Hasan Mahmud considered the momentum that is growing inside the team.
In August 2026, Bangladesh defeated Australia by nine wickets in Darwin, demonstrating the team’s increasing potency in the longest format. The quick bowler, who took nine wickets in two innings and won Player of the Match, was crucial to that triumph.
Hasan Mahmud on Bangladesh’s aspirations to play Test cricket
After winning Darwin, Bangladesh is currently ranked fourth in the World Test Championship standings. Over the last 13 Tests, the squad has won six games, showing a remarkable improvement in their red-ball results over the previous two years. The team’s performance is still vital with six Tests left in the current World Test Championship cycle, including a trip of South Africa and home series against England and the West Indies.
The Darwin Test demonstrated Hasan Mahmud personal growth as a bowler. His first-innings numbers of 6-55 were the third-best bowling performance in Test cricket history by a fast bowler from Bangladesh. In addition, the haul was the first five wickets taken by a Bangladeshi bowler in Australia, highlighting both his own development and the team’s improving performance.
