The Sharjah Warriorz have completed their team for the fifth season of the DP World ILT20, assembling a well-rounded group that mixes proven international experience with growing UAE talent following the Season 5 Player Auction in Dubai. With newly appointed Head Coach Adrian Birrell at the helm, the Warriorz have built a 23-man side capable of launching a strong challenge for the trophy.
The squad had already signed James Vince, Adam Milne, Waqar Salamkheil, and Sikandar Raza before to the auction, building a solid core of experienced match-winners. At the auction, the franchise boosted its team by adding Richard Gleeson, Mohammad Nabi, Paul Walter, and Adil Rashid, as well as increasing depth and diversity in the batting and all-rounder categories.
Sharjah Warriorz’s greatest addition was England pacer Richard Gleeson, who brought substantial T20 experience to the squad for USD 180,000. Afghanistan veteran Mohammad Nabi was the second-largest purchase, costing USD 140,000, while Adil Rashid returned to the Warriorz lineup after previously representing the team.
The Warriorz have also added depth to their squad with veteran campaigners like Paul Walter, Craig Overton, George Linde, George Dockrell, Logan van Beek, and Brandon McMullen, as well as wicketkeeper-batters Tom Banton and James Rew. The additions provide the team various batting options in the middle and lower middle orders, as well as flexibility with the bat and ball.
Spin is another important strength of the Warriorz roster, with Waqar Salamkheil, Adil Rashid, Sikandar Raza, Mohammad Nabi, and George Linde offering a potent spin attack. Linde, a left-arm spinner from South Africa, brings another dimension to the attack under South African coach Birrell, with the combination ideal for Sharjah Warriorz’s home stadium conditions.
The franchise has also placed a priority on the future generation, adding four UAE U19 players to the team. The young local contingent will supplement the experienced international core, bolstering the Warriorz’s UAE representation.
