Former Indian batter Suresh Raina projected that India would overcome Pakistan in a close game at the 2027 ODI World Cup and had high faith in the current Indian team.

The two teams will play each other at Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on October 10, 2027. The group stage of the event, co-hosted by Namibia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa, will feature 14 teams.

Suresh Raina insisted on emphasising India’s dominance in all three aspects of the game in his assessment. He praised the aggressive approach and courageous batting mentality used by the current generation of Indian players and claimed that the team’s overall talent puts them apart from their competition at this juncture.

Citing India’s successes in 1983 and 2011, Suresh Raina voiced optimism that the nation would win a third World Cup in 2027. He felt that India had an advantage heading into the competition due to their overall calibre, even if he conceded that South African supporters would also be quite supportive of Pakistan.

A substantial portion of Suresh Raina’s assessment focused on India’s bowling prowess.

He underlined the power of India’s speed assault in particular, pointing to their ability to generate tremendous pace and bounce, which he believes would be essential given the conditions around South Africa. Suresh Raina demonstrated faith in these bowlers’ capacity and disposition to withstand pressure in a high-stakes tournament.

His remarks provide credence to the notion that India’s aggressive batting and bowling unit makes them a well-rounded team capable of competing at the highest level throughout the tournament. Raina’s evaluation of the team’s depth and quality was clear even if he did not name any bowlers by name.
