Over the course of the two innings, 811 runs were scored, which was the third-highest aggregate in an ODI. The high-scoring nature of the match did not impress Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of India, as he believed that the surface offered the bowlers essentially no assistance.
On Wednesday, India secured a commanding 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series by dominating the West Indies by eight wickets. The run-fest in Guwahati was highlighted by five hundreds, including a record-breaking double hundred from Shubman Gill.
The bowlers collectively conceded 807 runs, the third-highest total in the annals of one-day international cricket. The fast bowlers, in particular, encountered difficulty in making an impression. While conceding over nine runs per over, India’s pacers managed to capture only three wickets. In contrast, the four pacers from the West Indies were able to score more than eight runs per over, but they only managed to take two wickets, with two of them conceding more than ten.
In an interview with the broadcasters following India’s series victory in Guwahati, Gautam Gambhir requested that the grounds be designed to facilitate a more intense battle between the bat and the ball.
Gautam Gambhir urges bowlers to exercise patience following Auqib Nabi’s costly debut.
One of the bowlers who had a challenging performance was Auqib Nabi, a debutant from India. The West Indies scored an impressive total, and the pacer conceded 84 runs in 8.5 overs without taking a wicket.
However, Gautam Gambhir emphasised that bowlers should not be assessed solely on the basis of their statistics, particularly in circumstances where the conditions are not conducive to success. The Indian head coach is of the opinion that the execution of a bowler’s plan should be prioritised when assessing their performance.

Gambhir further stated that the coaching team does not exclusively focus on the final scores; rather, they first assess whether a bowler has executed the strategies accurately. Furthermore, he underscored the importance of providing assistance to inexperienced bowlers such as Nabi, who were playing in his first international game.
