Mohammad Kaif has suggested a certain batting order for India’s ODI lineup against the West Indies, with Yashasvi Jaiswal at number four. Mohammad Kaif request comes as India prepares for the series without several major players who are competing in the Asian Games, including as Shreyas Iyer, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ishan Kishan.
The three-match ODI series between India and the West Indies will begin on September 27, 2026, followed by a five-match T20I series on October 6. The ODI series coincides with the Asian Games in Japan, which run from September 24 to October 3, resulting in a scheduling clash that has prompted discussion from past players and experts.
Jaiswal has played six one-day internationals, scoring 285 runs at an average of 71.25 and a strike rate of 97.60. The left-handed hitter has two hundred in his ODI career, one against South Africa and the other against Afghanistan. His ODI debut was on February 6, 2025, against England, and his most recent appearance was on June 17, 2026, against Afghanistan.
Kaif also questioned India’s team selection approach, given the overlapping commitments.

He raised concern about the plan to send India’s strongest available side to the Asian Games while the ODI series against the West Indies is played with few matches before the next World Cup. Kaif pointed out that other countries have adopted a different route, sending younger athletes to the Asian Games.
