The decision ends a long career, where he played for several domestic sides and won many titles while establishing himself as one of New Zealand’s reliable opening batters.

Jeet Raval Announces Retirement at 38

New Zealand domestic game veteran Jeet Raval has announced his retirement from professional cricket following 18 seasons. The last competitive match of the veteran batter was in March 2026 as he played for Northern Districts in the Plunket Shield.

Raval said he felt proud and satisfied with his career. Playing for New Zealand was a childhood dream, one he spoke of with his dad.

Jeet Raval’s International Cricket Career

Raval was born in Ahmedabad the largest city and former capital of the Indian state of Gujarat but he learned his cricketing craft back in India, before emigrating to Kiwiland. At school in Ahmedabad with former India wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel, they opened the batting.

Raval, who moved to New Zealand in his childhood days, began playing domestic cricket at the domestic level debuting for Auckland back in 2008. Performances that earned him chances up the cricketing chain, right through to a Test debut against Pakistan, in 2016 at Christchurch.

He scored 1,143 runs, at an average of 30.07, from his 24 Tests for New Zealand. He has also 1 century and 7 fifties in his international career. He scored 132, his highest Test score against Bangladesh at Seddon Park in the 2018–19 season. Raval played just four seasons of international cricket, although he was part of the New Zealand squad that won the first ICC World Test Championship title in 2021.

His last Test match was against Australia in Perth in January 2020. Even after stepping down from international cricket, he made major contributions to New Zealand’s domestic competitions.

More Than 10,000 Runs in First-Class Cricket

Raval’s greatest feats came with the bat in first-class cricket where he was a reliable top-order batsman, winning a reputation for solidness and patience at the crease. In 164 first-class games, he made 10,432 runs at a rate of 37.66. With 24 centuries and 50 half-centuries to his name, he is among the few batters in New Zealand who have scored more than 10,000 runs.

He achieved that landmark in December 2025 as captain of Northern Districts against Auckland. The milestone emphasized his longevity and value to New Zealand’s domestic cricket infrastructure.

During his professional career Raval played for Auckland, Central Stags and Northern Districts. He also represented Yorkshire at county cricket in England in 2018. The 256 is his best first-class score, and he became one of Auckland’s most consistent run-scorers. Also, he was a leader who provided value both with the bat and his understanding of match situations.

Domestic Titles and Memorable Records

Raval took on New Zealand’s major domestic competitions with success. That means he won titles in the three formats of first-class, one day and T20 cricket. Some of the best moments from his career include in March 2013, [12] when he registered an unbelievable opening stand of 321 with Jamie How while playing against Otago for Central Stags. The partnership remains a record in one-day cricket in New Zealand.

He was vital in their victorious 2024–25 Plunket Shield-winning campaign when Northern Districts finally broke through to lift the championship again after a long wait. Apart from his batting, Raval also contributed with the ball when he brought in his leg-spin, intended or not. He delivered several vital bowling performances during the 2024–25 season to support Northern Districts’ campaign. A powerful combination of experience, maturity and consistency ensured that he was an asset to each domestic side he turned out for.

Jeet Raval’s Cricketing Legacy

Jeet Raval retirement marks the end of an important chapter in New Zealand domestic cricket. While he may be best remembered internationally for his Test appearances, his contribution to the domestic game was even more extensive.

His ability to occupy the crease, build partnerships and deliver consistent performances over many seasons earned him respect among teammates and opponents. His career also demonstrates how players can build successful professional journeys after moving countries and adapting to a new cricketing environment. For Indian cricket followers, Raval’s story carries an additional connection because of his Gujarat roots and his school-level opening partnership with Parthiv Patel.

As Raval steps away from professional cricket, Northern Districts and New Zealand cricket lose an experienced opening batter who contributed to the game for almost two decades. His records, domestic titles and memorable partnerships will remain an important part of his legacy.

Jeet Raval’s retirement is not just the conclusion of an international cricketer’s journey; it is the farewell of a consistent domestic performer whose dedication helped him turn a childhood dream into a remarkable professional career.
